Portugal and Portuguese food is highly underrated; massively underrated and Cruel is a good example of that. Located on Rua da Picaria which is quite a phenomenon on its own in Porto, this is an amazing restaurant with a quirky idea behind their ‘Cruel’ menu.
I loved the restaurant when I looked inside, I loved the menu and absolutely loved the food and dessert especially.
Booking: Highly recommended especially for dinners. For lunch during a week day I had no issues though.
Interior and Ambiance:
Quite chic and beautiful and the small terrace at the back was my favourite. The interior is trendy and very pleasant.
It felt like a breath of fresh air to be honest when I looked at the menu. It is divided in three sections; Cruel, Cautious and fearful.
Cruel is adventurous, cautious is relatively safe and fearful is traditional food and all three had a good variety to choose from. Being me I obviously went for Cruel (Kill Me Now much!)
Crispy Baby Squid with Asian sauce – Absolutely delicious. The squid was just crispy enough and not soggy at all.
Steak Tartare – So you chew a little flower that changes the feel in your mouth and makes the food more electric. It enhances your sense of taste and my God I can still feel it a bit while writing about it. Absolutely loved the sensation..
My favorite dessert so far out of the whole Portugal trip.Mousse without chocolate and a secret ingredient (Cachaça). Sitting in the sun with bellyful of amazing food this just makes you feel like you’ve drifted in heaven by choice…
