North Sea is an important part of Turkey and the Laz cuisine has some important influences on Turkish cuisine. We were excited to try Klemuri, the lovely restaurant just a few meters from Istiklal Street in Istanbul which offers Laz cuisine. The management was more than happy to arrange a little chat at the end about the inspiration behind the menu and the place.
The restaurant is very cosy and has an aura of calmness despite being very close to busy Istiklal street and all tourist hot-spots.
The menu has Laz dishes as well as Aegean and some Georgian influences.
We ordered dried aubergines stuffed with rice and mince and Borani which is like a stew made of yogurt, chick peas, chard and spinach.
The Black Sea plate was very tempting but after a lot of baklava we decided to skip starters (feeling bad about it now).
The food was very fresh and delicious. The menu is very well put with the sides perfectly complimenting the main dish.
The menu has a lot of vegetarian and vegan variety which was very refreshing.
This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in Istanbul or happen to visit the city and want to eat at a nice place with relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff.
The place is medium pricey (not pricey at all for Istiklal street though) and the restaurant and the management gets a big thumbs up for a great meal and evening.
